Top Flite 7000 Xl Super Long Golf Balls ( A Review )

It's another warm day in Alabama and it was a great day to test another golf ball. Today I am evaluating the Top Flite XL Super Long Golf Ball. Today's test was held at the Alpine Bay golf course in Alpine, Alabama. The outdoor temperature was about eighty degrees, a fantastic temperature to test the ball in. I am fifty-five years old and generally a bogey golfer. My swing has slowed down immensely over the past twenty years. I normally like to play with a soft golf ball with a low compression.

I looked at several sites on the internet to

try to find the compression of the Top Flite XL 7000 to no avail. The box and the website both report that this ball is a low compression with a soft core. The cover of the ball is made with a "Hot Ionomer cover" which is supposed to give you low spin and optimized launch speed to obtain maximum distance. So how did the ball work?

The ball was extremely straight for me. I usually only hit about six or seven fairways in a round. Today I hit twelve out of fourteen fairways. This ball is supposed to have low spin and I guess I can credit my straightness off the tee this afternoon to the low spin on the ball. It was great hitting most of my second shots from the fairway; but there is a downside to low spin. With the low spin it was sometimes difficult to stop the ball on the green. As far as distance goes this ball was just OK. It seemed that as my swing got stronger today the ball went less and less distance. My first couple swings from the tee were soft. One of my first drives was 250 yards and the second drive was close to an amazing (for me)

290 yards. On the front nine my drives averaged about 240 yards, and I am not a hard hitter. On the back nine my drives dropped down to an average of about 215 yards. I felt as though I was making extremely good contact on the back nine; but the ball seemed to go a shorter distance.

The ball had a nice feel coming off the driver. The balls would really pop as they left the club head. Today I hit several balls off of my irons and over the greens. Usually, I end up on the front edge of the green. My irons were knocking these balls a longer distance than normal. My iron shots today for the most part were straighter than I usually hit them.

To sum things up, these balls are probably good for a person who has a consistent slow to medium speed golf swing. The balls seem to spring off of the club head better when hit softer as opposed to harder. If I had not been testing the ball today I would have switched to a higher compression ball on the second nine. The balls played very straight off of my woods and off of my irons.

Overall, the Top Flite XL 7000 Super Long will be a good match with the right person. Like so many soft balls, don't use these if you are already a long ball hitter. You'll probably have better luck with a ninety or hundred compression golf ball.
